Grantham Amateur Radio Club Is Looking for a New Home

Help us build the future of radio in Grantham. We're looking for a space to set up antennas, run a radio station, hold meetings, train new operators and support our community.

Help Us Build the Future of Radio in Grantham

For over 40 years, Grantham Amateur Radio Club (GARC) has been bringing people together through communication, technology, and shared curiosity. Formed in 1982, we are one of Lincolnshireโ€™s longest-running amateur radio clubs and a recognised RSGB-affiliated training centre.

But now, weโ€™re at an important turning point.

๐Ÿ  Why Weโ€™re Looking for a New Home

Like many community organisations, weโ€™ve faced challenges in recent years โ€” including declining attendance and the need to modernise how we operate and engage with people.ย ย We believe the key to moving forward is simple:

๐Ÿ‘‰ย A dedicated, permanent space where the club can grow, operate, and engage with the community.

๐Ÿ“ก What We Need

Weโ€™re looking for a location that would allow us to:

  • Installย external antennasย (mast, wire, or small tower)
  • Set up aย working radio station (shack)ย for HF, VHF, UHF, and digital modes
  • Store club equipmentย safely and securely
  • Hostย regular meetings, training, and demonstrations
  • Open our doors to the public duringย special events and community activities

This doesnโ€™t need to be perfect โ€” weโ€™re open to creative solutions, shared spaces, or partnerships.

๐ŸŒฑ Why This Matters

Amateur radio is more than just a hobby.

Itโ€™s a technical and social activity that connects people across the world while building real-world skills in:

  • Electronics and engineering
  • Communication systems
  • Emergency and resilience capability
  • STEM education and hands-on learning

With the right space, we can:

  • Expand our membership and attract new people
  • Run more training courses and help people get licenced
  • Support schools, scouts, and local groups
  • Put Grantham on the map with special event stations and activities

Our revival plan is already focused on outreach, modernisation, and growth โ€” but a physical base is the foundation that enables all of it.

๐Ÿค What We Can Offer in Return

Weโ€™re not just asking โ€” weโ€™re offering value back to the community.

Partnering with GARC means:

  • Aย responsible, well-organised groupย using the space
  • Opportunities forย public engagement and education
  • Increasedย local visibilityย for your organisation or venue
  • Flexible use (mainly evenings, weekends, and occasional events)

๐Ÿ“ฃ Can You Help?

Weโ€™d love to hear from:

  • Community centres
  • Landowners
  • Schools or colleges
  • Businesses with available space
  • Organisations interested in collaboration

Even if youโ€™re not sure โ€” a conversation could lead to something great.

๐Ÿ“ก The Bigger Picture

This isnโ€™t just about finding a room.

Itโ€™s about securing the future of amateur radio in Grantham, creating a place where people can learn, experiment, and connect โ€” locally and globally.

If you can help, or know someone who can, weโ€™d really appreciate you reaching out.

The original high-tech social network โ€” still connecting people today.
